Image Anaylsis & Compostition

  • She has very open body language towards the camera suggesting that she is open and that she is a confident character.
  • Shes staring at herself in the reflection which could mean that she is obsessed on how she looks and takes pride in herself.
  • She us standing out from the almost black background which focus's the viewers attention towards her.
  • She is wearing this very white feathery dress which conotates as very peaceful, elegant and angelic but the redness in her eyes suggests anger, brutality and aggression, also the white face make up suggests she is trying to hide her true feelings by smearing them over with this face paint.
  • Her facial expression suggests power and sturdiness, she looks very confident in herself and what she is doing.
  • The angle is very head on which shows power and confidence if we associate her with the angle.
  • Her eye line is in the top third of the screen showing power, dominance and confidence.
  • The way this image has been constructed within the cinematography level is interesting. She has been shot within the reflection of a smashed mirror, which leads the audience to think, why is it smashed? Also the fact she is on the left hand side of the reflection gives her and the viewers an illusion of power. Also the closed framing suggests that she cannot escape this life style, it has become an obsession for her.
With taking all of the aspects of the image into mind this picture suggests a horror or a physiological horror/thriller. This image will help me because it it helps me understand what the cinematography can achieve if done right.
  •  The closed framing of the character suggests that she is stuck in a lifestyle that she cant get rid of, she is very much in the dark and behind this misty and rainy glass which encourages us to empathize with her. She is very much center framed with a slightly high angled shot which suggests that she is the main character of the point of focus at this point but she is weak as she is just within the top third eye line.
  • Her body language is very closed, with her hand and hair covering most of her face, and with that being the only part of her we can see we, this suggests entrapment and isolation that is self caused.
  • It is a close up of the girls face which emphasizes her facial expression, and further encourages us to empathize with her.
  • The white vale to the right side of her suggests a slight peak of innocence and purity but this is only slight as most of the frame is dark and threatening.
  • In her facial expression she looks scared, sad and worried, so with the close up this emphasizes the expressions.
This image will help me with my film opening because it shows me what the mise-en-scene can achieve if i pay close attention to detail. Also it indicates what kind of body language suits which shots good and what kind of lighting works well with mise-en-scene and the body language and facial expression.
